Public Works General Laborer

The Job

This positions’ general characteristics are multi-faceted by covering water and wastewater operations, street maintenance and parks:

·       Water/Sewer – Repairing leaks and curb stops, installing meters and radios, replacing/repair to service connections, collecting samples and preparing for testing per State and Federal requirements, exercising valves, pumps, and flushing hydrants

·       Street maintenance – Operation of heavy equipment to sweep, grading gravel roads, and asphalt patching

·       Parks/Trails – Cleanup, assembly, minor repairs, trash removal

Requirements

Position requires graduating from high school or GED equivalent, and a valid Driver’s License.  Heavy equipment operational skills, and water/wastewater utility operation experience is preferred [including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, Human Machine Interface (HMI), and Programmable Logic Control (PLC)].  Applicant will be required to possess or obtain within two years a Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement; within four years a Montana State Class 3A, 4B and 3C Water and Wastewater Operator certifications.  A complete job description and application may be obtained from City Hall at (406-285-3431) or online at www.threeforksmontana.us/contact-us

Wage & Other Perks

·       The City offers excellent benefits!  The City provides sick and vacation hours, health, dental and vision benefits, paid holidays and retirement program.

·       Wage is $18.00-25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications, with incremental raises based on advancement and completed training(s).

·       This position can also be an apprenticeship position to become a certified Water and Wastewater System Operator through the Montana Rural Water Systems’ school.  Time worked with the City prior to beginning school (even similar experience with another system), will be credited as the “on-the-job” portion of the State’s requirement.  Apprenticeship program is a 2-year program, combining on-the-job training with related course work and instruction.
